Abstract

The current digitalized media landscape is an attention eco­nomy where misinformation, fake news and conspiracy the­ories as well as tribal populist narratives of us versus them are successful in harvesting attention and setting the agenda. Both misinformation and triba­lism pose threats to civility, the social fabric and in the end de­mocracy itself, and to counter­act these tendencies, we must understand the mechanisms and structures driving them.
